HOW TO REPAIR A SCRATCH

So, you’ve found a scratch in the paintwork of your BMW?

Although it can be distressing, it’s not the end of the world and you won’t need to rush out and buy a new car just yet.

Step 1: Car Polish

In most cases, minor scratches can be removed by polishing.

First, you need to wash and dry the car (see our blog on the ‘how to’) and then ensure the car is parked in a shaded spot and the paint surface is dry and cool.

Before you start polishing, make sure the product you are using is suitable and follow the instructions carefully.

Step 2: Touch Up

If the scratch is still visible after you have polished your car, then the next step is to have it touched up. If this is the case, we recommend you bring your BMW to Panel One for assessment and advice.

The correct colour code for your vehicle can be obtained from your dealer or it can usually be found on the identification plate affixed to the B-pillar or inside the engine compartment, depending on the model. Paint pens and spray cans are usually available from your dealer but depending on the circumstances these should only be used by a trained specialist.
